Visiting Yorkshire Wildlife Park with a toddler and a baby felt like one of those days I wasn’t entirely sure would go smoothly if I’m honest. Anytime you’re juggling naps, snacks, nappy changes and trying to keep a toddler happy, there’s always a bit of planning involved.

We recently went as a family and I thought it would be helpful to share what it was actually like, because I always find real reviews from other parents much more useful than the perfect “everything was amazing” version.
If you are planning a day out like this, I’d definitely say sorting your baby essentials beforehand helps more than you think. Things like snacks, bottles and just having a bit of a plan for naps made a big difference for us.

Is Yorkshire Wildlife Park Good for Toddlers and Babies?
I would say yes, it is definitely suitable for toddlers and babies, but it does depend on how you plan your day.
It is very open and pram friendly which instantly makes things easier. You are not constantly lifting the pram or trying to squeeze through tight spaces which I really appreciated with a baby.
My toddler enjoyed being able to walk around safely and look at the animals, although we did still end up using the pram quite a bit when tiredness kicked in as there is a lot of walking to do. I also needed to lift my toddler a lot to be able to see clearly; more viewing blocks would be needed.
It also started chucking it down with rain while we were there and we struggled to find anywhere to shelter nearby. This was very difficult as I had a crying cold baby in the carrier and a toddler screaming in the pram. Next time I would come prepared with better coats/umbrellas ect.
What we liked
– You can actually see the animals
This stood out straight away. The enclosures feel spacious, but they are designed so you can still spot the animals without too much effort. We didn’t have to keep lifting our toddler or searching for ages, which made the experience far more enjoyable.
– It’s genuinely pram-friendly
Some places claim to be pushchair-friendly but still feel awkward in reality. That wasn’t the case here. The paths are smooth and open, and we didn’t run into any difficult areas. It made the whole day feel more relaxed.
– The play areas are well placed
The play areas made a big difference to the flow of the day. When our toddler started to lose interest, we could stop and reset before things escalated. It helped avoid that rushed feeling you sometimes get on family days out.
– It feels calm, even when busy
The park is large, and that space really helps. Even when it got busier, it never felt crowded or overwhelming. That’s a huge advantage when you’re managing two young children.
Things to be aware of
There are a few practical things to keep in mind. The park is large, so expect a fair amount of walking. It’s best to treat it as a full-day trip rather than trying to rush around in a few hours. Food is available on site, but queues can build up at peak times. Bringing snacks makes the day easier.
Play Areas and Picnic Spots
One thing that actually made a big difference to our day was the play areas. They are dotted around rather than all in one place, which worked really well because it meant we could break the day up without having to go out of our way.

For our toddler, this was probably just as exciting as the animals. It gave them a chance to run around and reset a bit when they started to get tired or bored. It also meant we weren’t trying to push them to keep walking when they’d had enough.
There are also plenty of places where you can sit and have a picnic. We brought our own food and I’m really glad we did. It made things feel much more relaxed and gave us a chance to stop properly rather than trying to juggle buying food while managing both kids.
Having those little breaks made the whole day feel more manageable. Without them, I think it would have felt like a lot of walking all at once.
If you’re going with little ones, I would definitely plan to make use of both the play areas and picnic spots. It turns it from a full on day into something that feels a bit more doable.
Overall it was a really nice day but I will be honest, it is a full day out and not something I would describe as “relaxing” in the traditional sense when you have two little ones. We took our time and didn’t rush from one end to the other, which helped a lot. The park is bigger than it looks so trying to do everything quickly just would not have worked for us.

The baby was fairly content in the pram most of the time and our toddler enjoyed seeing the animals, although attention spans definitely come and go at this age so we had a few stops along the way.
Having everything we needed with us made a big difference, especially snacks and bottles. I have definitely learned that if I am not prepared on that front, the whole day becomes harder than it needs to be.
